Small size Gold Certificates were printed in the 1928, 1928 A and 1934 series. Only the 1928 series was released to the public. The Gold Certificates were printed in $ 10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000 denominations. The BEP also printed but never released a 1934 $100,000 Gold Certificate. The Portraits contain the same images as regular Federal Reserve Notes.

The Gold Reserve Act of 1933 required the surrender of all Gold Certificates, both large and small size. Possession was considered illegal until April 24, 1964 when secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon removed all restrictions on the acquisition or holding of Gold Certificates. It has since been legal to collect them. Small size Gold Certificates are considered more rare than large size Gold Certificates.

Total Printing of small size Gold Certificates:

Since the 1928 series was the only series issued I have not listed the print of the 1928 A or 1934 series.
